I am originally a Van Buren Pointer. I graduated in 1995, with honors. I was in the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Vice President of the Distributive Education Clubs of America. I recently celebrated my 20 year reunion with classmates that I had not seen in . . . 20 years. It was great. I cannot tell you how precious friends that you grow up with through school with will be to you one day. They share so many experiences with you: teachers, principals, etc. They are a part of your extended family. :)
I started the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, AR, in the fall of 1996 on Leadership and Dean's Scholarships. I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science in December of 2000. I later went through the Non Traditional Teaching Program to receive my teaching certification. The 2015-16 school year will be my ninth year of teaching; I have taught geometry all but one of those years. I received my Masters of Science of Education for Mathematics in May 2014 and I have spent the summer developing all new investigations and lessons for geometry. I am very excited for this school year.
Since I have been teaching at Cedarville, I have successfully completed the College Ready Mathematics Master Teacher Workshop. This was a 4 year summer workshop at the University of Arkansas that committed to (3 weeks per summer). The workshop partners math and science teachers together from all grade levels and seeks to develop and support delivery of high quality education for students so that they are better ready for college.
I have taught at Cedarville High School since August of 2007. I began by teaching geometry, algebra II, and algebraic connections. I taught those same classes for several years. For the 2011-2012 school year I taught 7th grade math and 8th grade remediation. In the 2012-13 year, I taught half a day at the middle school (7th grade math) and half a day at the high school (geometry). Since 2013-14, I have been back at the high school with my first love, geometry! I will also be teaching ACT Prep and Advanced Topics in Mathematics. :)
In 2011, I married Jerry Wilson. Jerry is a Cedarville graduate (Class of '86) and is my best friend! He and I love to hike with our three children Ethan, Spencer and Kai Leigh. We take them to float the Buffalo River (almost!) every summer (we missed one year because the river dried up before we could get around to making a trip!), we love to hike, garden, birdwatch, camp, pretty much anything outdoors! Jerry and I were actually married in Jasper, Arkansas, just because of how beautiful it is there. We love to go there to hike and explore the landscape, so we decided to go to the courthouse and get married. When we did, the justice of the peace offered to marry us out back in a pretty gazebo. We accepted her offer and also the services of her 10 year old granddaughter, who was there visiting for the day, to take pictures during the ceremony. :)
